How to write a business listing in a directory that is engaging and converts to traffic

Writing an engaging and purposeful business listing description can be a daunting task especially when it comes to your own business.

We have put together a few tips to both help write a description but also assist you in being able to be found online.

Keywords can make or break you

When referring to keywords, it is important to think what someone would type to find you. You may be a florist but a person searching may go further than that. They may search for ‘florist selling roses in Brisbane’ which reflects their need and requirement and a possible location for their enquiry. When choosing keywords in your business listing, it is important to not just repeat the same words throughout your description but to think of variations that someone my use. Using the example above, you could try to implement that you are a florist based in Fortitude Valley but delivers all throughout Brisbane offering a wide range of flowers from sun flowers to roses and then expand on each section from there. Always keep in mind that you may not rank number one for the word florist however by utilising long tail keywords, you have the chance to be shown to a unique searcher. Use carefully crafted keywords that engage and covert when writing your business listing.

Think about your category

You need to consider which category you place your business listing in. If you are an online marketer, then perhaps placing your listing in the Computer and IT category is not the best fit and the Business Services one would be better. Consider the category wisely as this is like a filing system and if you place your business listing in the wrong file, how can people find you?

Remember that you are writing for humans and not search engines

One of the most important things is that you write about your business in its truest form and not just so Google can find you. Search engines are much smarter at detecting keyword stuffing and overuse of words so be creative but careful not to sound robotic. Remember, writing a good business listing is for humans, not just search bots.

Using high quality pictures and logos

Another important factor that you need consider when crafting a quality business listing is the use of high resolution images and logos. People are visual creatures and the eye has a strong sense of what looks right and what doesn’t so always use the best version of your logo that fits the required dimensions. Together with writing a great business listing and using high quality imagery, you will help your business be found online.
